Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs, preached that kindness and compassion are the forces that can positively influence and transform the world. He emphasized five core teachings:
Share with all those who are in need.
Earn without deceit and work diligently.
Chant the name of the ‘True God.’
Engage in selfless service.
Pray for the happiness of all.
The roots of Sukh Seva Charitable Trust stretch back even before its official establishment in 2014. Its members had long been actively engaged in serving the needy, assisting those in distress, and spreading kindness in various ways. It was during a casual encounter that the idea of forming a trust took shape, as they discussed the immeasurable joy of giving and helping others.
In a world driven by materialism, everyone aspires to experience happiness and find contentment. True happiness is often associated with the fulfilment of desires, whether they be basic necessities, comforts, or even luxuries. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to possess everything they need. Society is largely divided into two categories: the “have-nots,” who belong to a lower economic stratum and lack privileges, and the “haves.” Surprisingly, both categories seek happiness. The act of donating or helping the poor and underprivileged brings happiness not only to the receivers but also to the givers. It is a reciprocal exchange of joy.
Research has shown that giving to others enhances our own happiness and fills us with a sense of satisfaction for demonstrating kindness and compassion towards others. It fosters connections and contributes to the creation of a happier society for all. As the Dalai Lama aptly stated, “Our prime purpose in this life is to help others.”
At Sukh Seva Charitable Trust, we embody these principles and strive to create a society where kindness, compassion, and service to others are valued above all. Join us on this journey of spreading happiness and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
We aspire to be like helpers. So we serve all people. No matter their religion, ethnicity, or gender.
Going after poverty’s symptoms is temporary. Going after its causes is permanent for everyone.
